Daniel Radcliffe’s Weird Al biopic Will Be Released in November on Roku Channel

Roku lines up more than 50 new shows for its free channel

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, a biopic about the musician starring Daniel Radcliffe, will be released on November 4 on The Roku channel, the streaming company has announced. The movie will be available to stream anywhere Roku's free service is available and is the latest step in the company's efforts to produce original content that includes up to 50 shows.

The biopic deals with musician Weird Al Yankovic's life, including his "popularity in the music industry with his love affairs with celebrities" according to Roku. It is directed by Eric Appel (who recently directed all ten episodes of the show Quibi  Die Hart) and written by Appel and Weird Al themselves. Along with Radcliffe, Evan Rachel Wood and Rainn Wilson also star.

It's an interesting move for Roku, a company better known for its streaming hardware than it is for streaming content. But after picking up Qubi's library of original content when the short-video service went down, then operating its own content and licensing major movies from Lionsgate, Roku is slowly building the Roku Channel into one of them. The coolest new channels. join the streaming wars.
