Don Lee Returns for Korean Action Sequel ‘The Roundup: No Way Out’

The biggest Korean blockbuster of 2022, The Roundup, is getting a sequel treatment. 

A new third film in the series, The Roundup: No Way Out, starring directors Lee Sang-Yong and Ma Dong-Seok (aka Don Lee), has officially begun production. over the weekend, K-Movie Entertainment's sequel agency told The Hollywood Reporter. 

The New Project continues the thrilling action adventures of mighty detective Lee Ma Seok-do after he joins the regional investigation unit to deal with a new criminal conspiracy. South Korean male lead Lee Joon-hyuk (With the Gods) joins the franchise to play the new film's villain, Joo Seong-Cheol, while Japanese actor Aoki Munetaka will play a character. yakuza object named Riki. 

The Roundup franchise began with the 2017 film The Outlaws, which featured Lee's spearhead detective Ma Suk-Do as he struggles to maintain control of Seoul's Chinatown amid fierce battles between rival gangs. It was well received by critics and fans of the genre, grossing $53 million. 

The sequel, The Roundup, is directed by Lee Sang-Yong and takes action in Vietnam, where Don Lee's detective sets out to extradite a suspect but is instead entangled in his pursuit. a  kidnapper and serial killer. Confirmed additional cast for The Roundup: No Way Out includes Lee Beom-Su (Operation Chromite, The Beauty Inside), playing Area Investigation Unit Inspector Jang Tae-soo, and Kim Min-Jae (Peninsula, The Battleship Island) as Ma Seok - his right-hand man. Actor Jun Suk-ho (Miss & Mrs. Police, Kingdom) and Ko Kyu-Phil (The Cursed: Dead Man`s Prey, Crash Landing on You) have also signed on to the project to play a pair of Ma Seok-do's unlikely allies. 

Like its predecessor, The Roundup: No Way Out is produced by Hong Film, B.A. Entertainment and Big Punch Pictures with ABO Entertainment handle distribution in Korea. 

Filming for the film will continue until November, with a target release date set to 2023.
